Driven by a concern about the degradation of our formerly beautiful river and its wildlife habitat, we seek to restore, conserve and develop the Glenavy River for the benefit and enjoyment of anglers and the local community.

Glenavy River Comes to Life

Welcome to the website of the Glenavy Conservation and District Angling Club. Please explore the site to find out who we are and to learn about our plans for the conservation and development of the Glenavy river.

We are a relatively new  Club founded in the summer of 2008 by a group of local residents. Concerned about the increasing pollution of the once beautiful salmonid river and its wildlife habitat, we decided that action was needed to restore, conserve and develop the Glenavy river for the benefit and enjoyment of anglers, and the local community. We aim to hand over to future generations a river environment as rich and thriving as the one our parents used to be able to enjoy.

The Club is a member of the Ulster Angling Federation and is grateful to the Federation and to the former Fisheries Conservancy Board, the Department of Culture Arts and Leisure and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency for their continuing advice and assistance. It also wishes to thank local landowners for their co-operation and support.
